The Creative Floral Arrangers of the Americas held its 2007 Seminar at the Marriott Orlando Airport Hotel in February. This new location worked out very conveniently for everyone, and the long hall leading to the main seminar room was perfect for the Kaleidoscope's parade of talent. Neutral backgrounds made every design a stand-out; no longer did designers have to cope with lights, glass, and shiny escalators behind their designs. The vendors and the featured designers also appreciated the uncomplicated directness of the loading docks to the Exhibition Hall. In our other location, the program presenters and the vendors were led down a tortuous route that went through the kitchen!

Thus the staging for the Kaleidoscope was perfect for the "knock-out" designs. We recognized Elaine Parisi's superb organization in using alphabetical order to make it easy to find a design the second or third time around. Frankie Gibson, Seminar Registrar, and Sandra Walters, Seminar Chairman, ran a tight ship with the programs being presented on time in a well-lighted, comfortable room.

Frank Laning, our featured designer, carried us all away to Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands with his beautiful linens and lush flowers reflecting tropical dining splendors. Claudia Bates, a 7th generation Floridian, took the foliage from our state tree, the Sabal Palm, and with her deft touch turn the fronds into striking designs. Betty Thompson from Georgia brought her own unique touches to her designs which ranged from a chandelier incorporated into a lighted design to a striking duo that combined an exhibition table and a panel design. Brenda Bingham's artistic concepts made our eyes pop! A master of the unexpected, Brenda parlayed her artistic training into a new look for floral designs.

And making a special guest appearance was the Tampa Floralia VI group of designers who brought fourteen different designs by their members to enhance the CFAA Seminar for 2007. What a thrill it was to see such an active group creating and exhibiting! We want to offer this group a special "thank-you" for their volunteer effort.

Seminar 2007 was a great experience! If you missed it, make plans now for Seminar 2008 to be held February 21-24 at the Marriott Orlando Airport Hotel.
