Seminar 2006

Featured Designers

Carolina Atelier was founded 5 years ago by Bobbi Heenan and is composed of 35 members from four states (soon to be five!): North Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Sough Carolina. The group meets twice a year, January and July, and each meeting focuses on the lives and works of an artist from the Old Masters through contemporary. They "interpret" the artist and the art works into floral designs. A designer may do ANY type of design or create a new one! Everyone is in the mode of "pushing the envelope" with experimental ideas. It's an exciting and challenging concept, and the results are awesome!

Cindy Rieger is a native of Michigan, but has called Florida and its waters home since 1958. She is active as a National Garden Club Accredited Master Flower Show Judge, and has served on the FFGC Board of Directors as a chairman with Youth Activities for a number of years. Cindy teaches Floral Design classes for FFGC. As a student of Bob Thomas, a new world of creativity opened, and it has been a wish of hers to stimulate others to find satisfaction and enjoyment in floral design. We were delighted to have her share her program "Follow The Line" with CFAA at the 2006 Seminar.

Sue Pryor Kerslake is a talented flower arranger and designer of national and international experience.  She moved to the Northwest in late 2003 from Florida where she holds a Life Membership in FFGC and is a Life Member. Sue brings with her the status of Life Judge and is a National Garden Club Flower Show School Instructor. Her experiences as a designer add to her understanding of the variety of design types in NGC. Her extensive travel as a demonstrator and judge enable her to create new and intriguing floral designs. She has shared her knowledge and design skills around the USA and both South and Central America. Her dynamic personality adds greatly to her programs and she is in demand as a speaker/designer/demonstrator.

Hitomi Giliam is the owner/operator at Satsuki's in Mission, BC, Canada since 1979. She was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Design (AIFD) in 1986. She was awarded both the Silver and Gold medals in the Great American Design Competition in 1986 and 1987. She has been the featured designer at six AIFD Symposia and guest-designer throughout North America, England, Japan, Mexico, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and has lectured in many Art Galleries, Museums, Botanical Gardens, Art Institutes in Canada and the United States. She organized the Survival of the Creative Minds in Taos, New Mexico and has co-authored several books on floral design. Currently she is on the  AIFD Education Committee; serving as an instructor of Teleflora Education Center and a  member of their Education Specialist Team. She is a columnist for Flowers magazine, and is one of only 5 recipients of AIFD "Design Influence" Award - awarded to individuals who have made a significant impact and exerted a positive influence with their signature design style.

Carol Lucia is a member of the Garden Club of St. Petersburg, Florida and has held many offices and chairmanships.
