Jim Johnson

JIM JOHNSON, AAF, AIFD, TMF is a popular and distinguished Senior Lecturer in the Department of Horticulture at Texas A&M University. He is also Director of the Benz Gallery of Floral Art, having been personally selected by Buddy Benz to be his successor in this role. Jim has been designing with flowers since he received his BS degree in Floriculture from Michigan State University in 1959. He received his Masters in Agriculture/Floriculture from Texas A&M in 1978. Prior to joining the faculty at TAMU, he owned and operated his own flower shop & greenhouse in Huntington, IN. Jim has authored five of the twelve courses in the nationally acclaimed Professional Certified Florist Program.

Jim has received many awards, including the Texas A&M Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award in teaching, the Texas A&M College of Agriculture's Honor Professor Award, the Texas State Florist Association Distinguished Achievement Award, and the AFID Award for Distinguished Service to the Floral industry. He is an internationally known author/lecturer/designer/lecturer, and has written and published more than fifteen booklets and books, including Flowers: Geometric Form, which was written in cooperation with Buddy Benz. Jim's strength is his ability to create dazzling designs that exemplify imagination and creativity along with good design principles and techniques. He is truly an outstanding designer and teacher.
